Saint Jean Pied de Port

Today, I spent the day in SJPP . The Napoleon route across the top of the Pyrenees was closed today due to snow. I’d always planned on spending a day here and head off tomorrow morning.

I was sorely tempted to leave this morning and go on the alternate route, which is not so strenuous and the views are not as good and who wouldn’t want to go over the same route that Napoleon took his troops into Spain.

I had met several pilgrims last night and this morning I was sorely tempted to do the alternative route. It was a group from Australia, Norway, and the UK and it would’ve been good to do the first part of the journey with them.

I decided to keep to my plan as this was only the first day and as luck would have it they have opened the Napoleon route for tomorrow. This route has been on my bucket list for sometime with the mixture of many emotions as it is a tough route.

Spent the day exploring SJPP that is a very historical city. It is my only day in France as well as the rest of the pilgrimage is in Spain.
